1. Who is someone you admire?
My grandmother, she was a true matriarch and loved her family fiercely. My grandparents travelled from the Netherlands to South Africa when they were both in their twenties and created a wonderful life together even though they had never been to South Africa before. She had immense courage and was fearless in pursuing her goals. Although my grandmother is no longer alive, she continues to inspire me each day.
2. What was the last thing you read?
Atomic Habits by James Clear. I borrowed the book from my husband who has followed James Clear’s blog for a number of years. The book is really insightful and reinforced the idea of creating small consistent changes that will lead to great results. I loved the strategies about habit stacking and designing your environment for success and have started incorporating a few new positive habits in my daily routine.
3. Where is the next destination on your travel bucket list?
2020 was a year filled with uncertainty and postponed our travel plans but I am hopeful that 2021 will be different and we can once again visit my brother who lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands. We also want to sail Croatia and visit a few of the Greek Islands.
4. What song gets you out on the dance floor?
I know it’s an oldie but still one of my favourites – Journey’s classic rock hit – Don’t stop believin’.
5. What is your go-to guilty pleasure?
I love chocolate. No, I really love chocolate! My favourite chocolates at the moment are the Lindt Les Grandes Milk Hazelnut and Excellence Roasted Hazelnut Dark Chocolate slabs. They are both incredible!!
6. What’s your favourite family tradition?
I have a few but making Christmas chocolates for our family and friends is one of my favourites. This is a simple but special tradition my grandmother started and which I try to keep alive each year. It involves melting and mixing chocolate, then pouring the chocolate into Christmas themed moulds. My grandmother would hang them on the Christmas tree as decorations for everyone to devour on Christmas eve.
7. Name three things you absolutely love?
That is an easy one – Champagne (or a great Méthode Cap Classique in South Africa), beautiful handbags and luxurious spa days.
